
Skilled Regional Visa Subclass 887
Holders of skilled regional provisional visas, such as type 489, can obtain permanent residence through the skilled regional visa- subclass 887: It is not necessary for a state or territory government to nominate you or for an Australian relative to sponsor you.
Who is Eligible for this Visa?
Residence in a Regional Area
You and your dependents have been living in Australia while on a skilled regional (provisional) visa (489) for the past two years. You and your dependents must have done all of your living, working, or educational activities during that time in a regional area of Australia (if sponsored by a State or Territory Government) or a Designated Area (if sponsored by an Australian relative).
Work Experience
You have worked in Australia for at least 12 months; this experience need not have been in a skilled domain, but it must have been full-time (at least 35 hours per week) and in a designated region.
What is allowed under this Visa?
The following relatives can be listed on your application:
- De facto partner or spouse (including the same-sex partner)
- Children under the age of 23 who are dependent on you financially as they are unable to work due to their physical or mental condition.
It is a permanent visa. It allows you to
- Stay in Australia indefinitely
- Work and study in Australia
- Join Medicare- Australia’s health insurance program
- Sponsor eligible family members for permanent residency
- Travel to and from Australia for five years
- If qualified, apply for Australian citizenship.
